Dou’ Insight: Why the Voices of Youth and Women are Essential for Palestine’s Future

Introduction

In the midst of political division, ongoing occupation, and escalating socio-economic challenges, the most urgent question for Palestinians is: how do we rebuild trust and hope in the future? At Dou’, we are guided by a clear belief: youth and women are not only the future of Palestine, they are its present.

Youth and Women in the Struggle for Participation

More than 60% of Palestinians are under the age of 30, yet youth remain significantly underrepresented in decision-making processes. Women, despite high levels of education and civic engagement, continue to face structural barriers preventing their meaningful political participation. This dual marginalization risks prolonging internal division and deepening political alienation among the younger generation.

Dou’: Safe Spaces for Dialogue and Action

Since its inception, Dou’ has worked to create safe, inclusive spaces for youth and women across Palestine. In 2025, we organized a series of youth dialogue workshops in Tulkarm, Jenin, Hebron, Cairo and Nablus with more than 150 participants. These workshops did not only raise challenges but generated concrete initiatives: from land and agriculture advocacy, to youth-led national conferences for political reconciliation, to civic accountability forums challenging local policies.

Our Commitment to a Human Rights-Based Approach (HRBA)

Dou’ operates on the principles of the Human Rights-Based Approach (HRBA), empowering youth and women as rights-holders, while holding decision-makers accountable as duty-bearers. We integrate gender equality, inclusion of marginalized groups, environmental sustainability, and digital advocacy into our programs. This vision is fully aligned with the global frameworks on Youth, Peace and Security (UNSCR 2250) and Women, Peace and Security (UNSCR 1325), which emphasize inclusive governance, gender equality, and the meaningful participation of youth and women in peacebuilding and decision-making.

From Dialogue to Policy

Dou’ is committed to transforming dialogue into action. Youth-led policy papers and advocacy initiatives emerging from our programs are presented directly to decision-makers, bridging grassroots perspectives with national policy agendas. Our youth-led podcast series further amplifies these voices, ensuring visibility both locally and internationally.

A Call for Partnership

We believe that building a more democratic and just Palestinian society requires genuine investment in the capacities of youth and women. Dou’ welcomes partnerships with international institutions, civil society organizations, and donors that share our commitment to inclusive governance, peacebuilding, and the meaningful participation of youth and women.

At the same time, Dou’ maintains strong ties and cooperation agreements with a wide range of grassroots civil society organizations across different governorates in Palestine. These partnerships ensure that our work is grounded in community realities, expands outreach to marginalized groups, and builds local ownership of initiatives. By linking national advocacy to grassroots engagement, Dou’ strengthens the sustainability and inclusiveness of all its programs.

At Dou’, we are convinced: youth and women are not waiting to be led – they are ready to lead.
